You will be responsible for the definition, design and development of all asset management, maintenance support tools provided for our turbines throughout their lifecycle.  This will include:

Successful candidates will have a background in Integrated Logistics Support with experience in;

  • Applying maintenance and reliability methods such as RBD, FTA, FMECA, along with Fault Detection, Isolation, Monitoring, Testing and Life Data Analysis to highly complex Plant and Equipment.
  • Experience of tools such as Relex, ReliaSoft, MatLab and damage-tolerant (fail-safe) design; Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) is also required.
  • Ideally qualified to degree level, the role holder will have a demonstrable knowledge in either OEM Product Development or Asset and Maintenance Management within the off-shore environment for wind turbines or other industries such as offshore, marine, power.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in an Integrated Product Team environment will be critical to be successful in this role.

Role: Project Engineer
Location: Offshore UK

The initial requirement is for a temporary contract which will last until September 2011 but there is a permanent position becoming available on completion of the offshore project.
Objectives:

  • To manage and execute project's engineering activities within the required time frame, budget and quality
  • Field engineering throughout offshore operations either on the main installation vessel

    Responsibilities:
    - Provide engineering/work preparation input for the Project Plan
    -Co-ordination of the engineering activities with other disciplines/processes and for monitoring progress, identifying deficiencies
    -Manage and control the performance of engineering subcontractors and engineering activities related to fabricators/suppliers of specialised offshore equipment
    -Supporting (civil) activities during operations at sea

    Tasks:

- Drafting Work Method Statements and other procedures to support operations at sea as well as the supply/transport/feeding of components to be installed
-Coordinate engineering and supply/fabrication/approval of project-specific equipment such as lifting gear, pile grippers and sea fastening provisions
-Coordinating project-specific engineering calculations/reports for mooring, anchoring, towage, load tests, rigging, sea fastening currently carried out by external engineering parties
-Developing in-house knowledge, expertise, standards and methods to carry out project-specific engineering calculations
-Field engineering throughout operations at sea (engineering support operations, planning and logistics coordination, daily progress reporting, interface management, implementation and method statements)
-Issues daily progress reports, including log keeping of daily construction activities
- Issues incident, accident, near miss reports and observation notes

Skills
-Excellent internal and external communicator on operational and project management level
-Experience in marine construction activities and engineering (not necessarily wind farms)
-Experience with basic engineering software such as Autocad, MS Project, Arena
-Experience/knowledge of marine engineering software such as MOSES and AQUA

The Role
- To manage the health and safety needs of the Company's offshore renewables team.
- To manage the continued development and implementation of their health, safety and environment management systems.
- To participate in the development of the Company's offshore renewables business particularly in relation to health, safety and environmental management and the delivery of construction design management (CDM) services.

In order to fulfil this role the successful candidate will be required to:

- Be conversant with current and emerging health and safety requirements in an offshore environment and have the ability to develop and maintain company offshore health and safety management systems.
- Drawing on the support of the HSQE department, develop and maintain company offshore environment management systems.
- Be able to ensure that all construction / operational activities on vessels / barges / turbines and related assets are carried out in a safe manner and in adherence to the company's health, safety and environment management policies, procedures, statutory regulations and guidelines.
- Manage the provision of CDM services.
- Assist with the development and support health and safety campaigns, promoting and disseminating successful practice.
- Perform and provide feedback/ guidance on risk assessments
- Provide support for incident investigations
- Advise on the implementation of current and emerging regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will:
- Have a recognised safety qualification (minimum of NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent) and hold corporate membership of a British safety institution (e.g. MIOSH)
- Industry exposure ideally will be in an offshore capacity, but not necessarily within the renewable sector (e.g. onshore construction, oil & gas, bridges etc)
- Have proven Health & Safety experience working on new build construction projects and knowledge of related environment management considerations. Related civil, electrical and mechanical engineering experience would be advantageous
- Have CDM experience ideally including, design risk management, the review of pre-construction information, filing statutory notices and the preparation and amendment of health and safety files
- Preferably have a knowledge of ISO 9001 and 14001
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Have excellent report writing and presentation skills
- Be self motivated, with the ability to work independently and in small teams
- Have excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate and influence at all levels both within the organisation and externally with clients, suppliers, trade bodies, etc
- Have good IT and information systems (IS) skills

The successful candidate will set up a new HSE team on behalf of our client, and as such will be trained and supported to build their knowledge on working within Offshore Renewables. As you progress within the organisation you will have the opportunity to visit client sites to provide management services and advice to existing and new clients.

Additionally, you may be required to undertake duties involving boat and helicopter transfer to offshore facilities. Duties may also require work at height, involving climbing to access work areas. (training will be provided).

You will also be require to conduct site visits (on and off shore) to undertake compliance audits, monitor performance and recommend improvement/remedial actions.

The focus of the role is the delivery of heavy civil engineering, harbour and maritime works including condition assessment, refurbishment and new build throughout the UK and overseas.

The vacancy is for someone who will combine excellent project delivery with good client management and business development. The vacancy is therefore for a maritime engineer with proven relevant experience and capabilities in delivery of engineering solutions to a range of satisfied clients.

Requirements

  • Chartered Civil Engineer, who has strengths in maritime engineering.
  • Degree in Civil & Maritime Engineer (MSc level would be advantageous).
  • Experience in engineering design, managing contract documentation and construction management.
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have a proven track record in delivering maritime projects successfully with a fee value of over £250K.
  • Applicants should have experience of business development and multi-disciplinary project delivery.
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate their personal credibility in the maritime engineering market place.
  • Applicants must have excellent project management skills, commercial awareness, financial management skills and be able to deliver work across a range of contract types.
  • Applicants must be familiar with relevant technical codes of practice and industry standards. Be familiar with the context of projects and the range of services relevant to engineering from initial planning through to construction management, and the relevant consents and approvals processes.
  • Must be numerate, literate and familiar with IT and software appropriate to the tasks undertaken.
  • Have a valid UK driving license, be available to travel across the UK and occasionally overseas.

A new survey has revealed that only 20% of adults in the UK are aware of the cost of a kWh of energy.
The survey was carried out by the County Homesearch Company who questioned 1,100 people also found that nearly a third of respondents overestimated the cost of heating a three-bedroom home by £300.
